Author’s Notes About the Book
One of my favorite movies when I was younger (and possibly still, though it’s been a long time since I watched it) was You’ve Got Mail. For those who haven’t seen it, the two main characters have somehow found each other online and started exchanging emails. Then they unknowingly meet in real life, and sparks fly.
This is a little bit of my take on it, but sapphic and Valentine’s Day related.
Secret Words, Sharp Feelings is about seeing someone else in a new way, a way you haven’t let yourself do before. It is set in Redwood Hollow, has lots of banter, a bit of low-grade angst, and characters finding both themselves and each other.
What is Secret Words, Sharp Feelings about?
It’s a sweet, slow-burn sapphic romance about rivalry, sharp words, and the feelings that refuse to stay hidden. Two women clash over ambition and graphic design—only to discover that the tension between them isn’t just professional. What starts as irritation slowly turns into something softer and way riskier than disagreement over font choices.
Is Secret Words, Sharp Feelings a standalone?
Yes. This is a complete standalone with its own satisfying ending. However, it is also part of the bigger Bean There series, where each book is a standalone but set in the same fictional city (Redwood Hollow). Each has the same heartwarming tone, humor, and sense of community.
Is there spice?
Low spice. This is a slow burn with closed-door intimacy, emotional tension, and chemistry that builds through dialogue, glances, and unresolved feelings rather than explicit scenes.
Do I need to read the other books first?
Not at all.
What kind of romance is it?
Rivals-to-lovers with sharp banter, emotional restraint, and a strong focus on internal growth. The romance unfolds gradually, with both characters needing to confront their own defenses before they can let anyone in.
